While actually the third cartoon short featuring Mickey Mouse, Steamboat Willie is considered the character’s debut as it was the first to be commercially released.  It was one of the earliest animated films to feature synchronized sound, though not the first, and highlighted the technological talents of Walt Disney and his early studio.
