Tracking down a helpless infant’s too difficult for you?

He finally managed to track down the book he wanted.
I finally managed to track him down in Manchester.
track down=to find something or someone after looking for it, him, or her in a lot of different places

track这个词有很多意思, 做名词时它可以指学校里我们跑圈的那个操场, 可以指火车的轨道, 可以指一张音乐CD上的一首歌(我想其实就是CD上的一个轨道吧)
你看它有这么多不同的意思, 但其实都归结到一点: 轨迹, 轨道. 所以track做动词就表示沿着别人的轨迹去追踪

注意上边2个例句中track down the book, 是把book放到后边
而track him down, 则是把him放到中间
你注意到这点了吗? 这和我们之前讲的there he is vs there’s smoke是一个道理
当是代词的时候, 就放中间; 是名词的时候, 就放后边.
当你在不同语境下, 多留意, 多见几次, 慢慢你就跟它混熟了

有童鞋说: 查字典发现infant是可数, 为什么这里不是tracking down a helpless infant呢?
我去查了一下词典, 确实是可数
我再去听原声, 我的耳朵却倾向于没有a的
但语法上我倾向于有a
那我还是听语法的, 我认为这一句应该有a
至于耳朵无法接受, 那我也没办法
