Hangzhou, Year 1253
---For Wu Wenying (1200-1260)
From a Latvian precious stone comes the young morning.
Onto the window of the Fengle Mansion, Wu weaves his new verse.
“I write verses, for pure time killing ;
I keep fishes, out of sheer interest.
Death, goes and comes; life, comes and goes…
Truly, I’m kind of pretty contented with
Such a living in such an unusual society.”
"What happens with year 1253, the anesthesia powder of fate?
A wild goose dies of being unusable, and a tree survives due to being useless.
How much is an escort by face hour? After sorrows measured by size of ear,
A banquet is produced by the wind on the lake water, in the autumn
When the wine-loaded lake riding waves seaward, I receive a secret letter from Jin’ er.
Then in the shadow of osmanthus blossoms I enjoy piping till daybreak
When tradesmen from the Black Sea go shopping pearls and jewels in the market. ”
